For anything concerning the site, its content or this notice, write to mail@musictheory.center. Messages are read in French, English and Spanish.
Intellectual property
The structure of the site, its texts, its engraved notation, its illustrations and its source code are protected by articles L111-1 and L122-4 of the French Intellectual Property Code. Reproducing or reusing them, in whole or in part, requires prior written permission — except for the short quotation that article L122-5 allows for teaching, criticism and reporting, provided the source and the author are named.
Music theory itself is not owned by anyone. A scale, an interval and a chord formula are facts about how music works, and nothing on this site claims otherwise. What is protected is the way those facts are explained, laid out, engraved and programmed here.
The site is built on third-party work used under its own licence: tonal.js, Tone.js and abcjs under the MIT licence; the Inter, Spectral and Noto Music typefaces under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
Liability
The content is written for teaching and checked with care, but it is offered without any guarantee that it is complete, current or suited to a particular purpose. It is not professional advice, and a reader who acts on it does so on their own judgement.
Access to the site is provided on a best-efforts basis. It may be interrupted for maintenance, changed or withdrawn at any time, and no compensation is owed for an interruption.
The site links to outside pages it does not control. A link is not an endorsement, and the publisher is not answerable for what is on the other side of one.
Reporting unlawful content
This site publishes only its own work and hosts nothing submitted by readers, so it is a publisher rather than an intermediary service within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (the Digital Services Act). No notice-and-action mechanism is therefore required of it.
If you nonetheless believe that something published here is unlawful, write to mail@musictheory.center with the exact address of the page, what you object to, and the legal ground you rely on. Reports are looked at and answered.
Applicable law
This notice is governed by French law. It is published in English, French and Spanish; should the versions diverge, the French one prevails.
